Children's Services
Introducing children to the value and pleasure of books is a very important service of the Lorain Public Library System. Our Children’s Services areas are designed for children from birth through the fifth grade. Board books, picture books, reference books, large print books, big books, books in Spanish, braille books, magazines, easy readers and fiction and non-fiction books are available. DVDs, videos, compact discs, audio cassettes, CD-ROM software, Leap Frog Story Books and books on cassette and CD also are available.
Other services for children include: an annual summer reading program for toddlers through young adults; the fall family read-aloud program; story hours for babies, toddlers and preschoolers; craft workshops and games for kindergartners through fifth graders; family nights and special events.
Teachers and home-schoolers will find our services and materials very useful. Materials may be chosen by the cardholder, or one of the Children's Services librarians will be happy to put together a collection of materials on a particular subject or theme. These requests may be made in person or over the phone and picked up at the Library.
In October, 2006, Children's Services opened Browser's ® Corner, a special section at the Main Library for children, birth through six years old and their parents or caregivers. The area includes two early literacy computers, games, and our own Lorain Lighthouse.
