Get Homework Help At LPLS Main Library
Do you need help with your homework? Need help with your math, your reading or writing?
Come to the Lorain Public Library System’s (LPLS) Homework Help Center that reopens as of September 17. This is the program’s sixth year.
The Homework Help Center is a comfortable space located at the Main Library, 351 W. Sixth Street, Lorain, where students and volunteer mentors can meet.
Homework help is provided to kindergarteners through eighth graders by helpful, friendly volunteers in a relaxed library setting.
Students can also work there independently on homework. Computers and school supplies are provided.
No appointment is needed. Just stop by Mondays and Tuesdays from 3:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. when school is in session. The Homework Help Center is generally open from September until May.
“We are willing to help with anything. We help children write their papers, learn their multiplication timetables, and practice their reading,” said Frances Johnson, LPLS Librarian Supervisor. Even chemistry help has been provided, she added.

If you are a senior in high school or older, are dedicated to learning, have an ability to communicate well with diverse populations and varied learning abilities, and have positive, enthusiastic leadership skills, you would make a great Homework Help Center volunteer mentor!
Volunteer mentors assist students with homework and study skills, create a welcoming atmosphere, and serve as a positive role model.
Johnson, who said the program could still use more volunteer mentors, recommends this volunteering opportunity.
“It’s a fun, volunteering job. It’s very flexible. You get great satisfaction from working with students,” Johnson said. The volunteers, “their help is always appreciated,” she said.
Volunteers must attend an orientation session and commit to working four hours per month during after-school hours.
