Ingrid Marie Rivera
Public Relations Associate at Lorain Public Library System (LPLS).

Started at LPLS: February 27, 2012

Education: A Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism with a minor in Political Science from The Ohio State University, and an Associate of Arts degree from Lorain County Community College. Currently taking a graduate level Latin-American Literature class in Spanish at Cleveland State University.

City of Residence: Lorain. Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico.

• Describe what you do at LPLS:

I promote the Lorain Public Library System through a variety of print publicity and through social media. I plan to incorporate more photography and videography in the near future.

• Share any former, fun, interesting jobs you’ve had (not Library related):

I used to work as a reporter for The Morning Journal newspaper in Lorain, and for the bilingual, Latino newspaper La Prensa in Toledo where I’ve written articles in English and Spanish. I’ve now transitioned into public relations and I love it!

• Why work at a Library? What brought you to the Library world?

I grew up using the South Lorain Branch Library and Lorain’s Main Library. While in school and college, I would use the Library for researching papers, finding books, and using the computers.
I’ve always believed in the value of Libraries, so it was a no-brainer when I learned of this career opportunity. I believe in this Library and am so proud to represent it!

• Describe what you love the most about working in the LPLS Library setting:
I believe in lifelong learning. I love to learn, I love books and I love to read, so this Library is the perfect fit for me! I also love to see others get excited about learning. I feel so blessed to be a part of this library system that is so beneficial to this community. The Library is a community center that provides free access to information, technology and entertainment for everyone.

1) Do you have any hobbies?
I love to read and write, including writing poetry. I enjoy running or walking in nature. I love to swim and stay fit. To add to the list, I would like to do more cooking and sewing. Plus, I absolutely love visiting museums, theatres and libraries, and traveling! I’ve also been enjoying playing video games like Sonic the Hedgehog lately… Should I go on?
I’m always looking for new exciting hobbies to try. My next ventures include painting, horseback riding, and figure ice skating – why not?

2) What are you reading now?
Here’s a few:

Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl.

Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games.

Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra’s Don Quijote de la Mancha.

Ted C. Fishman’s China, Inc: How the Rise of the next Superpower Challenges America and the World.

Ana Lydia Vega’s Encancaranublado y otros cuentos de naufragio.

3) What music is in your iPod?
A wide variety! Christian, classical, cultural, Puerto Rican, Mexican and other Latino music, R&B music, pop music, country, and more!

4) Do you have any pets?
I had three cats named Nino, Pachuli and Luna and one dog named Friday- a mix of German shepherd and Pit Bull. I have a freshwater fish aquarium and will soon get a saltwater aquarium.

5) What are your favorite foods?
I love Puerto Rican, Mexican, Indian and Chinese food!

6) Your favorite sports teams?
The Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns!

7) What other talents, skills do you possess?
I also speak Spanish and some French. I’m a photographer and videographer.
I write songs, play some piano, and would like to learn how to play the guitar. I used to play the clarinet in Lorain’s Southview High School’s marching band and concert band. I just love music and the arts.
As a lifelong learner though, I’m always looking to extend this list!
